Who is Eggcellent Eggs?
My name is Terry and my husband, Sasha Georgiev are the co-owners of Georgiev Farms. We started farming giant garlic back in 2015 on a farm in Gordons Bay. March 2016, we rented a farm in Pearly Beach and November 2017, after been retrenched from a Blue Chip retailer we started our small egg production with 40 hens and 3 roosters (indigenous chickens). In January 2018 we purchased a batch of Amberlink point of lays and that was the real start of our egg business. We grew slowly and steadily and managed to get up to 7 coops on the Pearly Beach farm. In November 2022 we moved to Cape Food Farm, an Organic certified farm, in Papiesvlei near Stanford, where we have around 20 hectares which we can use.
Expansion
The demand for our eggs kept on excessing our production and increasing on our own was too slow. March 2023 at a local gathering in Stanford, The Harvest Club, I asked like-minded regenerative farms if they would like to join the Eggcellent egg brand. They needed chickens to fix their soil and pastures and we needed eggs, and we would purchase all their eggs from them.
The first farmer to join was Vaughan, Sandra and Mitch Cummings, from Rivergate Guest farm (www.rivergatefarm.co.za) Their first coop was filled on the 4 May, first egg laid 27 May and then started receiving regular egg deliveries since 20 June 2023. Rivergate now has 3 mobile coops 11 May 2024 their fourth coop is filled and another 3 are waiting for hens.
Our second farmers are Steve and Karien Buys from Cape Food Farm (www.capefoodfarm.co.za). Their first coop of 300 started in July 2023 and got their 1st egg on the 8 August. They have their second coop which they will fill on the 11 May 2024.
Due to the shortage / lack of layer hens, we approached Overberg Pastures to raise our layers. Jannie and Rachel jumped to the opportunity as their know how to raise day old broilers (https://overbergpastures.com) They first batch was Lohman Browns, which we took from 6 weeks as they did not have the space to raise them to point of lays. The second batch are Hylines and will be ready to be sent out to the farmers on the 11 May 2024. They just received their 3rd batch of day old layers early April, which will be 18 weeks in August.
Johan Kapp of New Goshen Chickens is our fourth farmer and got his first coop of 300 on 13 February 2024 and the 1st egg laid 3 March.
Judge Inglis of Ixia Country Venue is our latest farmer to join us. He will receive his first coop on the 11 May 2024. We look forward to seeing he progresses like the others.
Eggcellent Eggs now is represented by a collective of like-minded regenerative farmers in Stanford that sell under the brand, Eggcellent Eggs via Georgiev Farm. All of our happy chooks are truly out on pastures, living their lives running outside, catching bugs and grubs and sand bathing, how chickens should be naturally.
Our collective of farmers are proud to be part of Eggcellent eggs and want to ensure that we provide our customers and consumers with the best, high nutritional fresh quality eggs.
Currently have 11 coops with around 3700 Free Range happy, healthy hens. With a further 1000 hens arriving on the farms on the 11 May 2024 and another 1200 in August 2024, this will make it 17 coops with 5800 happy layers. It looks very promising that we will fill the remaining empty coops before the end of the year, bringing it to a total of 20 coops by the end of 2024.

Husband and wife team, Sasha and Terry Georgiev, who have a passion for adventure and are not scared to jump right in and get their hands dirty.
Sasha, originally from Bulgaria, arrived in South Africa in 1997. His grandparents owned a small farm up in the mountains of Bulgaria, which he visited while growing up. When his parents retired, they purchased a small holding where they still grow seasonal vegetables and have layer hens.
Terry went to an Agricultural school and although most of her career was in corporate environment, her dream was always that she wanted to farm. After life took an unexpected turn in 2016, the time had come to head off to the farm.
